A Reader asked us to publicize the issue after pointing out three no-stopping signs installed along Asnyka Street. In an email to the editorial office, he wrote that the first sign had been placed “exactly in the middle of the intersection with Polna Street.” He added: “Since intersections have the power to cancel most prohibition signs, this sign has no legal force because it was placed at an intersection that simultaneously cancels it! This sign has been standing there pointlessly for a dozen or so years!”

The Reader also raised the issue of the no-stopping signs installed near the seat of the district governor’s office at the end of last year. The signs have supplementary plates reading “Does not apply to vehicles of the District Governor’s Office.” “As I understand it, they are intended to exclude a several-dozen-meter stretch of road in front of the District Governor’s Office building from the stopping ban. They are supposed to, but they do not! The signs are positioned in such a way that they essentially prohibit stopping along the entire stretch of road!” the man complains.

According to the Reader, the problem is that no one installed signs canceling either prohibition. “If the prohibition is really supposed to apply only to the short stretch in front of the District Governor’s Office building, B-36 [zakaz zatrzymywania się – przyp. red.] at the intersection with Polna should be removed, and double-sided B-36 signs should be installed in front of the District Governor’s Office,” the man advises. He adds that, in his opinion, the disorder in the signage along the stretch is caused by “the sloppiness of the District Roads Authority.”

The District Roads Authority Rejects the Allegations

– The sign stands at the intersection with Polna Street and applies up to the intersection with Mickiewicza Street – explains Anatoliusz Koper, deputy head of the District Roads Authority. In the official’s view, the signage along this stretch is correct. Drivers who routinely park their cars on Sierpnia ’80 Street are breaking the rules.

Asked why two new no-stopping signs had been installed near the seat of the District Governor’s Office, the deputy head of the District Roads Authority replied: – This change was introduced pursuant to a decision by District Governor Cezary Przybylski. It would be incomprehensible if government office vehicles were unable to park there.
