Operations on the roads of Lower Silesia will begin on May 30 and continue until June 3. In addition to traffic police officers, many officers from the prevention division will also take part in the planned operation. The primary objective is to ensure that road users have a safe journey and return home safely.
During the operation, officers will intensively monitor compliance with speed limits, the use of seat belts and child restraint systems. There will also be checks of drivers’ sobriety and the technical condition of vehicles.
Police officers will perform their duties using patrol cars—not only marked vehicles, but also unmarked ones equipped, among other things, with video recorders. Where necessary, police patrols will be positioned in a cascading formation, tasked with paying particular attention to so-called road pirates.
Where road conditions require it, officers may direct traffic so that travelers can reach their destinations efficiently and safely.
The officers say:
We should all care about safety, so it is worth preparing properly for the journey.
Remember:
- when setting out on a longer journey, we should be rested
- we should check our car—whether it has a valid technical inspection, working lights, fluid in the windshield washer reservoir, and whether we have a fire extinguisher, spare wheel, etc.
- we should check the documents—for both the vehicle and the driver
- let us prepare a travel plan—the route and places where we can take a short rest during the journey
- about fastening seat belts and transporting children in child seats
- about adapting our speed to weather conditions and our own abilities—in keeping with the principle that slower means safer
- we must never get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol.
During last year’s Corpus Christi weekend, police officers in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship recorded 34 road accidents, in which 5 people died and 45 were injured. At that time, 129 drivers were detained for driving under the influence.
The police add:
We appeal to drivers to use common sense and exercise caution while driving. Following basic safety rules increases our chances of reaching our destination safely. We will also watch over the safety of people taking part in processions during the Corpus Christi celebrations.
