Mr. Jan’s tractor-mounted pumping unit has many advantages: it is inexpensive, easy to operate and efficient. It fits any tractor. According to the inventor, this solution is intended directly for farmers and municipal services.
Had the Bolesławiec resident’s idea been implemented—and had every village council been equipped with his tractor-mounted pumping unit, as Jan Kunicki proposed—40 such pumps could have gone yesterday to the flooded areas to help people.
The homegrown invention is found only in Żurawina near Wrocław, where its grateful owners have used it more than once in the fight against floods. Mayor Jan Żukowski wrote to the inventor: “The Żórawina Commune Office would like to sincerely thank Mr. Jan Kunicki for the assistance provided during the flooding […]. The loaned water-pumping equipment became an additional force in the fight against the dangerous natural disaster. The pump unit’s simple construction and ease of operation make it a widely used device for removing the effects of floods and more.”
Local authorities and the Sejm completely disregarded the matter. “I did not expect the authorities to show such a great lack of responsibility,” the Bolesławiec resident admits. “In a conversation with one of the mayors, I heard that if the commune ordered these pumps, it would have to disband the Volunteer Fire Department. That is faulty reasoning. I appeal to officials to reconsider this once again.”
We have written about Mr. Jan’s invention twice: in 2010, in the article “A Bolesławiec Resident with an Idea for Fighting Floods”, and in 2011, in the article “A Bolesławiec Resident Fights Officials’ Inaction”.
