Police officers, acting on information obtained from neighborhood officers, searched residential and outbuilding premises on one of the properties in Zgorzelec County. They secured nearly 140,000 cigarettes and more than 17 kg of tobacco without Polish excise stamps.
According to the police officers’ calculations, putting such a quantity of illegal tobacco products into circulation would have exposed the State Treasury to losses of nearly PLN 180,000.
The property owner has already been charged. He faces a fine and up to three years in prison, as well as forfeiture of the seized property. To secure future financial penalties, police officers seized assets worth a total of PLN 60,500.
