“Lemonade Joe” (1964), directed by Oldřich Lipský. The plot of this western parody can be described briefly and succinctly: in a depraved town in the Wild West, a blond-haired cowboy appears who drinks lemonade instead of alcohol. And what happens next, you may ask? The rest of the story is written by the boundless imagination of the Czech filmmakers. Anyone who has not seen it should find out why Czech comedy has so many fans around the world. “Lemonade Joe” won an award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
“Filip from the Conopias” (1983), directed by Józef Gębski. The story of a family struggling with everyday problems connected with living in a block of flats on a new housing estate in Warsaw. Each such apartment is full of defects and construction flaws that make life there a real nuisance. On top of that, there is a visit from a family from the provinces, a housing-cooperative surveyor, and a group of know-it-all specialists (played by the TEY cabaret ensemble, led by Zenon Laskowik).
The coordinator and originator of the “Comedy Without Borders” project is Dariusz Uściński. Applications (for a maximum of 4 people) should be sent to
