On May 7, Lubin police officers were notified by MOPS employees that, in one of the apartments in the Staszica housing estate, intoxicated parents were “caring for” their 9-month-old child.
A community police patrol immediately went to the scene. At the indicated address, officers found social workers and an emergency medical team. The apartment was in disarray; clothes and food scraps were lying on the floor. The smell of alcohol was noticeable in the air.
In a small room, lying in dirty bedding, was a 9-month-old boy. He appeared neglected. He was taken to hospital and examined by a pediatrician. He was then placed in his grandmother’s care.
Police detained the child’s 36-year-old mother and 44-year-old father. It turned out that, at the time of their detention, both were completely intoxicated; their blood alcohol level was close to 3 promille.
The irresponsible couple was taken into police custody. The suspects could now face up to five years in prison.
