The incident occurred on April 15, at around 1:00 a.m., in one of the tenement buildings in Legnica. While patrolling the city, traffic officers received information from the duty officer about a gas cylinder explosion. They were near the scene, so they immediately went there.
As they approached, they noticed flames and thick smoke coming from one of the apartments. They immediately ran into the staircase, which was filled with dense smoke, and began evacuating all the residents.
Moreover, in the apartment on the first floor, where the gas cylinder explosion had probably occurred, the officers spotted a man with numerous bodily injuries. They carried the 65-year-old man outside.
They then returned to the building to make sure that no one had been left inside. On one of the floors, they noticed a man who did not respond to their words. He did not want to leave his apartment and was completely disoriented. The officers carried him out of the building by force.
The police officers provided the men with first aid and, shortly afterward, handed them over to the emergency medical team. The 65-year-old man was taken to hospital.
Thanks to their proper and rapid assessment of the situation and their courage, the officers protected the tenement building’s residents from tragedy.
