The police duty officer in Lwówek Śląski received a telephone call requesting help. A police patrol went to the scene. According to the reporting woman, her husband, who had left prison, had appeared at her home even though he was subject to a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching her. The woman feared his presence.

During the intervention, it turned out that the man had left when he saw the police car. The officers nevertheless decided to drive behind the building, turn off the engine and wait for a while to check whether the situation would recur. And indeed, after some time the man returned. He was then detained.

It emerged that the husband had served a sentence for abusing his wife and was subject to a court-ordered ban on contacting the reporting woman or approaching her within less than 150 metres.

The detainee will be placed at the disposal of the prosecutor and the court.

A ban on perpetrators of domestic violence approaching injured parties is a new measure. It was introduced into the Criminal Code by an amendment to the Act on Counteracting Domestic Violence. In cases involving a violent offence against a close person, the court may order the perpetrator not to approach the injured parties. The prosecutor may order the perpetrator’s eviction immediately after a domestic intervention.
