On Friday afternoon, a dangerous chase took place in the Wleń municipality. Officers from the Traffic Department of the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski noticed a Volkswagen whose driver might have been someone subject to a court-imposed driving ban.

The officers decided to stop the car for a check. They gave the driver clear visual and audible signals, but the man had no intention of stopping. He accelerated sharply and began to flee.

Dangerous manoeuvres during the chase

During the escape, the 28-year-old repeatedly crossed into the opposite lane. Oncoming drivers were reportedly forced to leave the road to avoid a collision.

The man also reportedly overtook in prohibited places and made other risky manoeuvres. His driving posed a threat not only to drivers, but also to pedestrians and other road users.

To end the chase, the officers set up a roadblock along the route. The VW driver once again failed to follow their instructions.

He nearly ran over police officers

The 28-year-old steered the car towards the officers at the roadblock. The policemen had to jump aside to avoid being hit.

The driver bypassed the roadblock, damaging his car in the process. However, he did not stop fleeing and continued driving despite the damage.

After several kilometres, the officers managed to stop the car and its driver.

Lifetime driving ban and drugs

During further proceedings, the officers established that the detained 28-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County had a lifetime ban on driving all motor vehicles.

Moreover, officers found intoxicating substances on the man: marijuana and methamphetamine.

The 28-year-old was detained and taken to a police cell. The following day, he was charged, among other things, with failing to stop for a traffic check, violating a court-imposed ban, assaulting police officers and forcing them to abandon their official duties. He will also be held responsible for possession of intoxicating substances.

Court orders pre-trial detention

At the officers’ request, the 28-year-old was brought before the District Court in Lwówek Śląski. The court ordered three months of pre-trial detention.

Police stress that this kind of behaviour on the road can lead to tragic consequences.
