He called us Reader, informing us that truck and oversized-vehicle drivers are speeding along the newly renovated road in Ocice. And when two trucks pass each other, one of them has to move onto the pavement because the road is simply narrow. The man asked whether speed bumps could be installed here, like those in Mierzwin. In his opinion, this is important, especially since children walk this way to school.
Paweł Bednarski, head of the District Roads Authority:
Due to the 40 km/h speed limit along the entire section of the village of Ocice, ZDP does not see a need to install speed bumps. However, in the interest of residents’ safety and compliance with the applicable regulations by drivers, we sent an appropriate letter to the Police requesting increased patrols in Ocice.
He also listed the arguments against installing speed bumps:
- increased noise and vibrations in the area – particularly troublesome for properties located near the installed speed bump
- above-standard exhaust emissions from vehicles crossing the speed bump and immediately after crossing it
- a hazard to cyclists crossing the speed bump and other drivers of two-wheeled vehicles
- the need for emergency vehicles – ambulances, fire engines and police vehicles responding to incidents – to slow down
- a negative impact on the road structure and on infrastructure located in the road, including water and sewage networks and gas networks
- difficulties with properly clearing snow from the road and frequent damage to strip speed bumps during snow removal
- difficulties with properly draining the road
- frequent driving over verges and pavements by drivers avoiding the speed bumps.
