The incident took place last week. An 85-year-old woman from Bolesławiec received a call from a woman who said that the senior’s granddaughter had caused a fatal accident and urgently needed money. The victim quickly realized that she was dealing with a criminal. When she shouted “you fraudster” into the phone, the call was disconnected.

The 85-year-old informed the Bolesławiec police about the entire incident. BRAVO TO THE WOMAN FROM BOLESŁAWIEC. This is exactly how scammers should be dealt with!

The police appeal and advise: officers NEVER inform people by phone about cases they are conducting. They also NEVER ask anyone to hand money over to an unknown person!

Let us inform our parents and grandparents that there are people who may want to take advantage of their kindness. Let us tell them how to behave when someone calls them asking them to hand over a large amount of money (to avoid prison for causing an accident).

How can you avoid becoming a victim of scammers?

  • above all, caution should be exercised – if someone calls us pretending to be a member of our family and asks for money, let us not take any hasty action
  • let us not tell anyone by phone how much money we have at home or in our account. Let us not withdraw all our savings from the bank
  • let us call someone in the family and ask whether the person who requested our help really needs it. Let us remember that no one will blame us for acting reasonably. Let us not give in to pressure exerted by scammers
  • when someone tries to scam us by pretending to be a police officer over the phone, let us end the call! Let us not engage in conversation with the scammer. If we do not know how to react, let us tell someone close to us about the suspicious call.
