Volunteer firefighters from Czerna (Nowogrodziec gmina) posted the following entry on their Facebook profile:
We regret to inform you that, due to the temperatures and the ignorance of the authorities of our gmina, we have been forced to withdraw our unit from operational service. The members of OSP Czerna have made every effort to maintain operational readiness; for eight hours we have been trying to restore this readiness, without success.
Update: 2018-03-04 11:20
When the firefighters arrived for the assembly, they noticed thawed-out valves. What is more, a pipe burst above the electrical installation, and the pump in the large vehicle froze. As we heard, Nowogrodziec gmina told the firefighters from Czerna that the firefighters’ base would be heated when there were frosts. The gmina was supposed to ensure their operational readiness. It did not.
Frost appeared on the windows of the base. The firefighters protected the control panel with foil. They do not even have communication with the command station of the Bolesławiec KP PSP anymore.
Moreover, they have no access to the main valve because it is located on a construction site. They fear that when it gets warmer, their headquarters will simply be flooded.
Interestingly, when the chief of OSP Czerna called the official responsible for the gmina’s volunteer fire brigades, the official reportedly told the firefighter to calm down because... it would be warm from the following day.
(And on The Bad Bunzlauer’s Facebook profile The Bad Bunzlauer we read the reason for this: “Because the base is inadequately heated, water is freezing in the rescue and firefighting vehicles stationed there. How much does common sense cost?”)
We will return to this subject.
