On February 24, a few minutes after midnight, officers from the Legnica traffic police noticed a driver of a Mercedes on Kartuska Street who accelerated sharply upon seeing the police car. The officers decided to stop him for a traffic check.

Despite the clear light and sound signals given by the officers, the driver did not stop; he fled through the city streets. The officers began a pursuit.

A moment later, on Pątnowska Street, the Mercedes driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree. The 55-year-old resident of Lubin County was injured and taken to hospital.

It emerged that the man had fled because he was required to serve a sentence of one and a half years in prison. He may now face an additional sentence of up to five years.
