On 21 February, at the order of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, police officers from the Anti-Corruption Department of the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław arrested a Wrocław resident suspected of committing a corruption-related crime.
Piotr Ż. was subsequently brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, where he was charged with having offered a financial benefit at least twice (in an amount of no less than PLN 200) to a forensic doctor at the District Court in Wrocław in exchange for the doctor issuing unreliable and untruthful certificates enabling the suspect to justify his failure to appear when summoned by law enforcement authorities.
The man did not admit to the charges and refused to give testimony. A PLN 5,000 property bond was imposed on Ż. The Wrocław resident could now face up to 10 years in prison.
Piotr Ż. is the sixth person suspected as part of an investigation conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, in which, in December 2017, Wiesław D., a former forensic doctor at the District Court in Wrocław, was charged with committing five corruption-related crimes.
