The incident occurred on January 8, after 4 p.m., at the intersection of national road No. 94 and road No. 3 in Legnica. A traffic jam formed there. Drivers were going around something and continuing on their way. Insp. Tomasz Gołaski, the district police chief in Lubin, was also returning home along this road. The head of the Lubin police officers noticed a motorcycle lying on the road, with an elderly man on it. He stopped the car he was driving to shield the motorcyclist, then immediately approached him.

As it turned out, the motorcyclist had not suffered any serious injuries, although alcohol could be smelled on him.

The Legnica police officers called to the scene determined that the 70-year-old man lost control of the two-wheeler while entering the intersection, hit a curb and fell. The man was drunk; his blood contained more than one per mille of alcohol.

It is not known what would have happened to him if he had lain on the road for longer in such low temperatures.
