On Saturday, December 30, Jeleniogórski police officers—Senior Sergeant Beata Sosulska-Baran and Staff Sergeant Rafał Gula—were on duty at the Puchatek slope in Szklarska Poręba.
During their duty, the officers informed skiers about safe behavior on the slopes, paid close attention to equipment that winter sports enthusiasts very often left unattended, checked the identities of people behaving improperly, and also drew attention to skiing etiquette on the slopes and in lift queues. Moreover, they ensured that skiers did not leave the designated routes and ski runs.
The officers are making efforts to ensure that, alongside the regulations of ski facilities, the FIS (International Ski Federation) Skiers’ Code is also displayed on the slopes; it serves as a kind of road code for ski slopes.
Police officers not only watch over skiers’ safety but also assist GOPR rescuers in providing first aid. (Every year, officers who serve in ski patrols take part in a first-aid course.)
