On Saturday, January 10, a doubles tennis tournament was held in the sports hall of II Liceum Ogólnokształcące. The proceeds were designated for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP). The tennis players managed to raise PLN 670. On Sunday, the money was officially handed over to the Bolesławiec Great Orchestra headquarters.
Six pairs took part in the competition. Rafał Kwieciński and Mirosław Sakowski proved to be the best. Stanisław Cebulski and Grzegorz Darul came second, while Bartosz Kasprzak and Tomasz Szpila took third place.
“The tournament was very well organized,” Stanisław Cebulski told the IstotneInformacje.pl portal. “This sport is a real passion for me. My wife comes first, and tennis second,” he laughs. “What fascinates me most about this game is the fight and competition,” adds Kacper Zwolski, the youngest participant in the competition.
The tennis players complain that they have nowhere to play in winter. “There is no such place, even though many people are eager to play,” says Rafał Kwieciński, co-organizer of the OMB tennis series. Tennis enthusiasts from Bolesławiec travel to Legnica, Złotoryja and Goerlitz. “There is nowhere to play, and the demand is really high,” emphasizes Bartosz Kasprzak, who has played tennis since April 1986.
The tournament winners’ prizes were funded by Karol Stasik, chairman of the County Council, Mirosław Sakowski, and the online stores www.ski.pl and www.tennis.pl.
The tournament was organized by Mirosław Sakowski and II LO. The organizers thank Tomasz Szpila from Przedsiębiorstwo Drobiarskie for his assistance.
