We have already reported that, by decision of voivode Paweł Hreniak, Mariana Buczka Street will be renamed Tadka Jasińskiego Street. This issue was raised during the December session of the Bolesławiec City Council. Mayor Piotr Roman informed councillors that, in the early 1990s, councillors had made a dozen or so changes of this kind:
- the former Armii Ludowej – today’s Willowa
- Broniewskiego – Jana Pawła II
- Dąbrowszczaków – Kościelna
- Dzierżyńskiego – Daszyńskiego
- Fornalskiej – Armii Krajowej
- Janka Krasickiego – Opitza
- Leningradzka – Tyrankiewiczów
- 22 Lipca – Lubańska
- Marchlewskiego – Generała Władysława Andersa
- Nowotki – Brody
- Armii Czerwonej Square – Bankowa Street
- Generała Karola Świerczewskiego Street – Zgorzelecka
- Wandy Wasilewskiej Street – Gałczyńskiego
- Marszałka Michała Roli-Żymierskiego Street – Baczyńskiego.
“I don’t know why the same was not done with Buczka Street,” commented P. Roman. “But the voivode’s choice, which fell on a person who was undoubtedly heroic, is very good.”
The mayor also mentioned that there were calls to change several more street names in the City of Ceramics, including Kutuzowa Street (our columnist Paweł Skiersinis recently wrote about this in the article Kutuzov – persona non grata) and Komuny Paryskiej Street.
“I say this with a great deal of caution: nothing without the residents. Their consent is necessary,” Piotr Roman added. “Well, unless the voivode decides otherwise.”
What do you think? Should the names of these two streets be “decommunized”? We invite you to join the discussion.
