The incident occurred on Thursday, 20 July, at the swimming pool in Osiecznica. A 40-year-old resident of Osiecznica municipality lost consciousness and lay on the bottom of the pool basin for approximately 10 minutes. When he was noticed, he was pulled from the water and resuscitation was attempted. (A helicopter from the Polish Medical Air Rescue was reportedly even supposed to fly to the victim.) Unfortunately, the 40-year-old man could not be saved.

That day, a 57-year-old lifeguard from Bolesławiec was on duty at the swimming pool in Osiecznica. On Friday, 24 November, the District Prosecutor’s Office will file an indictment against the 57-year-old. “For at least several minutes, the man failed to fulfil his duty to continuously observe the people in the pool basin. He did not notice that the injured man was lying on the bottom of the pool,” district prosecutor istotne.pl Ewa Łomnicka said to the . (At the time, the lifeguard was sitting in a place from which it was impossible to see what was happening in the pool).

The 57-year-old man from Bolesławiec could face up to 5 years in prison. We will return to this subject.
