The farewell ceremony for the soldiers began in the morning with a Mass. It was followed by a roll call on the garrison square.

“In a few days, you will begin leaving your home unit and start moving to Afghanistan. Soon, you will begin issuing orders to your subordinates. Make wise, careful and well-considered decisions. Remember that haste and routine are poor advisers,” Colonel Dariusz Parylak told the soldiers.

During the ceremony, the change-of-command officer, Lieutenant Colonel Grzegorz Potrzuski, spoke. In his address, he said that the soldiers heading to Afghanistan were aware of the challenges and the complicated climatic and operational conditions in which they would operate. They are soldiers who, through years of reliable service, have demonstrated their determination and readiness to make sacrifices for the benefit of the Polish armed forces and to build Poland’s international authority.

The ceremony ended with a parade of subunits, after which the soldiers of the 7th rotation of RSM PKW Afghanistan and their closest relatives went to the Military Club to listen to a concert by soloists.

The core of the 7th rotation of RSM PKW Afghanistan consists of soldiers from the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade. More than seventy of the approximately 230 soldiers serve every day in the armored brigade in Świętoszów. The others are personnel seconded from military units of the Land Forces, Navy and Special Forces.

Some of the soldiers will fly to Afghanistan as early as the first ten days of November. Their task will be to take over equipment and supplies from soldiers of the 15th Giżycko Mechanized Brigade, whom they will replace, including armored troops from Świętoszów. All the forces will reach the mission area by the end of next month. The soldiers will spend approximately six months in Afghanistan; their return is planned for the turn of spring and summer 2018.
