In an email to the editorial office a reader wrote: “Please investigate the issue of ongoing thefts at Termy Bolesławiec – shoes and towels are disappearing.” How often such situations occur is unknown. As asp. szt. Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, spokesperson for the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec, informed the istotne.pl service, this year officers have received only one report of a theft that occurred at Termy. (In February, a wallet was stolen from the victim; unfortunately, the perpetrator was not identified.)
“I do not know on what basis one reader is reporting ongoing thefts. I would understand if there had been 10, 15 or 30 emails,” comments Łukasz Jaźwiec, head of Termy Bolesławiec. “Such situations can happen, but not through any fault of ours. The facility regulations also state that valuable items should not be brought into Termy.”
“We also have a lost-and-found office, and most of these items are returned to their owners,” the facility manager emphasizes. “I have repeatedly asked employees to pay attention to items left at Termy. Nevertheless, we have several dozen items whose owners have not come forward.”
Furthermore, the manager assures us that the scale of thefts at Termy Bolesławiec is certainly not large: “We have approximately 12,000 visits to the facility each month; that is how many people pass through here. Statistically, there must therefore be people who want to steal something. It is a human factor, and we cannot completely prevent it.”
However, Łukasz Jaźwiec stresses that it is certainly not the case that Termy staff disregard such situations. “We make every effort to prevent thefts,” he emphasizes. “We have surveillance. When customers report a theft, we analyze the situation and take action.”
The head of Termy adds that every customer can leave their belongings in a locked locker. All that remains for us is to recall the old truth: it is worth keeping an eye on one’s property, because opportunity often makes the thief.
