Officers from the Prevention Department of the Zgorzelec District Police Headquarters spotted a Mitsubishi with German registration plates during a night patrol. They decided to stop the vehicle for inspection. When he saw the police car, the driver accelerated and began to flee. The officers gave chase.
The fugitive first sped through the streets of Zgorzelec and then through towns near Zgorzelec. At one point, trying to hide from the police, he turned onto a dirt road, switched off the lights and stopped the engine. To no avail. The 42-year-old resident of Zawidów was arrested. It turned out that he had more than 0.5 per mille of alcohol in his system and was driving the car—as it turned out, not for the first time—despite a court-imposed ban.
The 42-year-old now faces up to five years in prison.
