The incident took place near Drukarska Street in Legnica. A neighborhood police officer saw two people: a man and a woman. He was using a paving stone to destroy a bin. (He was tearing the slats off it.) She was watching.

As it turned out, the 32-year-old vandal had first stolen the bin at around 3:00 a.m. from a bus stop on II Armii Wojska Polskiego Street, and then moved it next to a container. In the morning, he came with a female friend and began destroying the stolen property.

The 32-year-old probably wanted to sell the bin at a scrap-metal collection point. He explained to the neighborhood police officer that he was interested in the pieces of wood. Because—allegedly—he wanted to keep warm.

The losses were estimated at more than PLN 2,000. The thief faces up to five years in prison.
