The incident occurred on September 11, at around 9:00 p.m. The 32-year-old called 112 and reported that an explosive device had been planted in one of the apartment buildings in the Zabobrze housing estate in Jelenia Góra.
The duty officer immediately dispatched a non-permanent mine and pyrotechnic reconnaissance team from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra, together with a dog, as well as firefighters, the gas emergency service and rescue services. The president's crisis services were also notified, and he provided a bus for the evacuated residents. Forty-seven people were evacuated from the building.
No bomb was found. The alarm turned out to be false. The caller was therefore arrested. He is a 32-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra. The man was drunk; he had more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.
The “joker” admitted his guilt. (He was unable to explain why he had done it.) The man was taken into police custody. He is under police supervision and has been banned from leaving the country. He faces up to eight years in prison.
