On September 11 at 7:15 p.m., Legnica community police officers went to one of the apartments. (A beaten woman was reportedly staying there.) At the scene, the officers determined that the woman was inside, but felt unwell and was unable to unlock the door. The door was forced open.

The officers found a 59-year-old woman in the apartment, and there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from her. The woman had a leg wound. She explained that she had fallen down the stairs after leaving the apartment to buy alcohol.

The apartment was filthy. In one corner, a terribly emaciated dog was huddled; its ribs were visible. The animal had no fur and was bleeding all over its body. (It was determined that it had an advanced, incurable skin disease.)

What is more, the community police officers found a rabbit that had become trapped under a sofa bed and could not get out.

The animals were placed under the care of a veterinarian and then transported to the Legnica animal shelter.

The woman was taken to hospital. If it turns out that the 59-year-old abused her dog, she could face up to three years in prison.
