Officers from the Lower Silesian-Saxon Nysa group, together with criminal investigators from Bogatynia, carried out an operation targeting vehicle crime. A BMW with German registration plates was hidden on one of the properties in Bogatynia. It turned out that the theft of the vehicle, worth more than PLN 200,000, had been reported in Germany several hours earlier.
The police arrested a 28-year-old man from Bogatynia. What is more, they found more than 20 portions of marijuana in his home.
Then, on another property, the officers found parts from a VW Passat. They came from a vehicle whose theft had also been reported in Germany.
The officers’ painstaking work led them to a 21-year-old German national. It emerged that the foreigner had been handing cars over to the 28-year-old Pole so that he could sell them for parts. The German himself reported the vehicles stolen in his home country in order to defraud the insurer.
Both men will face trial for their actions. The man from Bogatynia faces up to five years in prison.
