On 18 July this year, a monument dedicated to officers of the Citizens’ Militia and the civic guard who fell “defending public order” in 1945–50 disappeared from in front of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters. The dismantling of the monument from the Bolesławiec community (as its inscription read) was handled by the Presidium Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters.
We were unable to establish what happened to the monument or whether it was removed in connection with the so-called decommunization law. The District Police Headquarters referred us to the Provincial Police Headquarters. The latter referred us to the Institute of National Remembrance. And the IPN, among others, referred us to… the headquarters in Bolesławiec.
