In July, we reported that the Zakład Energetyki Cieplnej had obtained a PLN 5 million low-interest loan to modernize the heating system. The investment is intended to stabilize heat prices. In an interview with the IstotneInformacje.pl portal, the company’s president, Józef Król, assured readers that thanks to the connection of two network systems (the so-called link), prices would not rise at a dizzying pace.
New tariffs came into effect on November 15. Bolesławiec residents will have to pay an average of 14% more for heat. “This increase is connected with the price of coal,” explains Józef Król, president of ZEC. – “For more than half a year, the situation on the coal markets has been dramatic. Many heating plants do not have the money to purchase the raw material.”
Bolesławiec’s ZEC has stockpiled almost 90% of its supplies of good-quality coal, purchased at a relatively low price. “Thanks to this, we have only a 14% increase,” Józef Król emphasizes. The company prepared the new tariffs in spring. In autumn, they were approved by the Energy Regulatory Office. “Our costs are reflected in the price. We are a municipal company; we are not focused on making a profit,” the ZEC president points out.
According to Józef Król, the link will indeed make things cheaper (the investment will allow the company to save PLN 1.3 million annually), but Bolesławiec residents will only feel the effect in the next heating season. “I assume that there will be no further increases this season,” the president adds.
