Police operations conducted on the roads of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship show that, unfortunately, many dangerous situations still occur, caused by drivers exceeding the permitted, safe speed. Every year, including during the holiday period, a large number of road incidents occur for this reason, as also confirmed by an analysis of crashes that have already occurred during this year’s holidays. Therefore, from Friday to Sunday, the Police will conduct intensified “SPEED” operations on Lower Silesia’s roads.
Every day, one of the causes of crashes occurring on the roads is recklessness combined with drivers failing to adapt their speed to the road conditions and applicable regulations. Despite numerous appeals from police officers, there are still people whose irresponsibility poses a serious threat to themselves and other road users. Therefore, in addition to their ongoing activities on the roads, Lower Silesian police officers will once again conduct intensified checks aimed at verifying whether drivers observe the specified speed limits in places where regulations are most frequently violated.
Concerned for the safety of travelers, police officers once again appeal for caution and compliance with traffic regulations. They also remind drivers how important it is to drive at a so-called “safe speed”—one at which the driver retains full control over the vehicle and, if necessary, can stop before an obstacle that appears or avoid it without unnecessary risk.
Let us remember that good weather and a straight road do not authorize drivers to exceed the permitted speed. On the road, where the situation is very often dynamic, many dangerous and sudden situations may arise in which we will be forced to react immediately. Excessive speed may cause us to lose control of the vehicle we are driving, resulting in fatal crashes and road incidents.
It is also worth emphasizing that the consequences of “breaking” traffic regulations are not always borne by those responsible; in many cases, their recklessness causes other road users to bear the costs. Therefore, police officers will discipline drivers who, by traveling at excessive speed, may cause a tragedy later on.
In addition to speed checks, during the operation police officers will pay attention to:
- the sobriety of drivers,
- the use of seat belts and devices for transporting children safely,
- the technical condition of vehicles,
- drivers’ compliance with other traffic regulations.
These types of intensified checks will continue.
