The incident took place on Sunday, April 23, on the A4 in Bolesławiec County. A driver traveling on the motorway noticed the driver of a Volkswagen Passat, who pulled out from a side lane without turning on his lights. What is more, he was making maneuvers that forced other road users to brake sharply.

The man who witnessed this called the police and kept watching the strangely behaving Passat driver. The latter noticed that the driver traveling alongside him was talking on the phone. He guessed that he was probably calling the police. The suspect then accelerated. However, the caller did not give up and continued driving behind the VW driver.

At one point, both men pulled into a parking area. The “pursuer” then ran up to the Volkswagen and pulled the keys from the ignition. The drunk driver did not even notice.

But after a while, he realized that the keys had disappeared. He began chasing the man who had taken them from him. However—probably because of the condition he was in—he was unable to catch him. He then began begging for the keys to be returned.

When the police arrived (the man who had initiated the “pursuit” remained in constant contact with the KPP duty officer), it turned out that the Volkswagen Passat driver, a 38-year-old resident of Wrocław County, was completely drunk. He had nearly 4‰ of alcohol in his exhaled breath. What is more, it emerged that the man was wanted by the Wrocław prosecutor’s office.

The 38-year-old now faces up to two years in prison. The suspect will also lose his driving licence.
