The period of barbecuing and spending free time outdoors is also when allotment thieves become active. Valuable equipment becomes easy and valuable prey for them. To protect themselves from unwanted visitors and minimise the risk of suffering losses, Lubin police officers remind people to properly secure their property.
“To fully enjoy time spent pleasantly outdoors, above all we must remember to lock the padlocks and locks on garden cottages, tool sheds and cottage windows,” say Lubin officers. “Let us not forget that a thief can enter an allotment even when we are there and stealthily deprive us of our personal belongings. It is important that, while carrying out cleaning work, we do not leave money, documents or keys in open cottages, because in this way the perpetrator may also gain access to our home.
They add: “A friendly group of neighbours is also an irreplaceable safeguard against property theft. While working or relaxing on an allotment, we should pay attention to the neighbouring garden and whether any suspicious people are present there. Let us try to remember the faces of strangers staying within the garden areas, as they may be potential perpetrators of crimes and offences, and a description of their appearance may help the police apprehend them.
