The incident took place on 16 March at around 1 p.m. When a policewoman from the Juvenile and Pathology Division of the police headquarters in Jelenia Góra was walking along one of the streets in the city centre, passers-by asked her to help an elderly woman. The 80-year-old had forgotten where she lived and was unable to return to her flat on her own. She was sitting on a bench; she had neither documents, nor a phone, nor the keys to her flat. Moreover, she was cold because she was dressed inappropriately for the time of year.
The policewoman managed to establish the 80-year-old's first and last name, as well as the fact that the woman lived near a bank. After checking several locations, she managed to find the elderly woman's home. A neighbour recognised the woman.
As it turned out, the 80-year-old's flat was open. Her carer was contacted. She said that she came to the elderly woman every day because she suffered from senile dementia. She had also visited the 80-year-old that day. When leaving, she locked the door. Nevertheless, the resident managed to open it.
The relevant support services were notified about the incident.
