The incident took place on Sunday, March 5, at Jazzva restaurant. Our Reader went there with a friend and his young son. He ordered fries and juice for the child. The two men each had a beer. “The juice had a January expiry date,” the father told istotne.pl. “I was concerned that it was very cloudy. I asked for a replacement. I received a second juice, also with a January date. The photo shows both bottles.”

“I did not argue much; I asked for the manager. The manager was not there, so we left,” the man continued. Both men left without paying. They did not touch the fries or the beer.

“I was disappointed by the situation,” the Reader stressed. He added that he immediately notified the sanitary inspection.

We asked the Bolesławiec Sanitary and Epidemiological Station about the incident. We were told that we were attaching greater importance to the matter than it deserved.

On March 8, we emailed the owner of the premises asking for an official comment on the incident. We have not received a response so far. However, we managed to establish that the sanitary inspection at Jazzva found no irregularities.

What do you think?

Daniel Pranić, head of Jazzva:

As with every restaurateur, guest satisfaction is always a priority for us. We constantly strive to improve the quality of the restaurant’s work, the standard of service, and the dishes we prepare, so that Jazzva restaurant can be a source of pride for our beautiful Bolesławiec. Anyone who has had any contact with the food-service industry knows that running a restaurant is teamwork, with success depending on many factors and the work of many people. Unfortunately, despite the enormous amount of work, effort, and heart we put into running the restaurant, situations sometimes occur when things do not go as planned—smaller and larger mishaps are not unknown even to the world’s top restaurants and best chefs—that is life. We are not afraid to admit our mistakes and apologize for them when they genuinely occur.

We did not comment on the situation described on your website because, having learned the account of the incident provided by the restaurant staff and other guests, we considered the entire episode petty and unworthy of attention and time, while Mr. X’s reaction seemed highly exaggerated.

When this article was published, however, we decided that readers should have the opportunity to obtain complete information and a full picture of the situation. We therefore asked the waitress working that day to describe what had happened.

In conclusion, I would like to add that, as a food-service establishment, the restaurant is under the strict supervision of the State Sanitary Inspection, and the inspections carried out—the most recent on March 7, 2017—have never found expired beverages being stored.

Waitress:

Working as a waitress, I sometimes encounter unpleasant people and comments. This time, on Sunday, two men came to our restaurant with a boy. From the very beginning, one of the men was rather unpleasant and snide toward me. I cannot now write down his exact words, but in any case I felt that he was hitting on me and provoking me. It seems to me that he may have been under the influence of alcohol.

After taking the order, I brought the beer and juice to the table. After some time, one of the men approached the bar and shouted at me that I had wanted to poison his son with expired juice and that everything in the restaurant was probably stale. I apologized and admitted that there might be something wrong with the juice, and offered to open a new one at the company’s expense and pour it in front of him so he could see that it was fresh. But the man did not want to listen to me at all. He walked away from the bar, sat down, and began taking photographs. Then he started shouting to all the guests in the restaurant that they should not come here and that I was a bad waitress.

I stepped aside. Nothing like this had ever happened to me or at this restaurant before, so tears simply began to fall from my eyes. The man left, throwing a chair and paying for nothing—including the fries he had ordered, because he claimed that I had probably deliberately given him spoiled ones as well. He slammed the door and left. The customers inside comforted me. They said I should not worry, that regarding the juice, the man had probably failed to notice that it might have been the production date. Nevertheless, they congratulated me for admitting the mistake, and [dodali, że]said they would continue coming here because they felt comfortable and at ease.
