On Wednesday, February 22, the Water University Games took place at the Bolesławiec Orka Water Park. This was the sixth edition of the University Games organized by the University of the Third Age in Bolesławiec, whose aim is to showcase swimming skills acquired during classes. The achievements of UTW students prove that it is never too late to learn to swim. – This form of activity later in life is, for many people, a guarantee of greater physical fitness, improved circulation and well-being, the participants themselves emphasize.
Around 60 people took part in this year’s University Games. As usual, the event began with gymnastics demonstrations using equipment, accompanied by music. In the competition for people who began learning to swim in the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 academic years, all competitors received certificates in the 75-meter noodle race: Michalina Burdukiewicz, Halina Dudyńska, Helena Izdebska, Julia Kuczyńska, Stanisława Leszczyńska, Maria Sobczyk, Halina Sobolewska, Jan Śliwiński, Maria Wełna, Barbara Wiśniowiecka, Krystyna Zatylna and Henryk Zatylny.
In the 25-meter freestyle (breaststroke, crawl or backstroke) category, Elwira Kaczorowska won among the women, followed by Grażyna Gunia and Stanisława Opała. Zygmunt Teterycz won the men’s category, ahead of Antoni Maciaszek and Andrzej Talar. The 25-meter freestyle relay, consisting of two women and one man, was won by Grażyna Gunia, Elwira Kaczorowska and Antoni Maciaszek. Second place went to Paulina Marszałek, Stanisława Opała and Zygmunt Teterycz. Danuta Satoła, Maria Wełna and Andrzej Talar finished third.
The equipment race was won by Krystyna Plechawska, Teresa Śmiałkowska, Antoni Maciaszek and Henryk Zatylny. Second place went to Wanda Nalewalska, Danuta Satoła, Jan Śliwiński and Andrzej Talar. Stanisława Leszczyńska, Jadwiga Zarzycka, Franciszek Pliński and Zygmunt Teterycz finished third.
