Reader:

At our cemetery, residents do as they please. Some commission a 2 × 3 m foundation for a single grave, which occupies the entire passage between the rows of graves and makes it impossible to walk through or install tombstones on neighboring graves. [...] Ignorance or spite?

“For several years now, a permit to install a tomb has been issued, regulating order in the cemetery,” Dariusz Filistyński, manager of the Municipal Cemetery in Bolesławiec, told istotne.pl Dariusz Filistyński. Anyone who wants to install a tombstone must apply to the administration for such a permit (the cost is PLN 123 gross). The permit specifies the conditions; usually, the dimensions for a single grave are 2 m × 1 m. “Residents order tombstones from stonemasons, but they always begin at the administration, and we are the ones who specify the conditions. All this is to avoid situations such as the one described by your reader,” D. Filistyński emphasizes.

He adds: “If such cases occur, the reader should come to our office, and we will clarify the matter. Each case is different. There are 22,000 tombstones in the cemetery, so there is plenty to do.”
