The revitalized route (No. 289) runs through the Copper Basin. The main result of the completed works will be an improved communication system in Lower Silesia. This will make it possible to launch convenient passenger connections between the main centers of the Copper Basin: Legnica, Lubin and Głogów. Conditions for freight transport will change significantly. Freight services will be faster and more efficient. Trains will travel twice as fast: passenger trains at up to 120 km/h and freight trains at up to 80 km/h. The revitalization of the line will be completed in 2020. The estimated cost is PLN 250 million.
New opportunities for passengers
The standard of passenger services will improve at 10 stations and stops. Renovated platforms will provide convenient access to trains. The facilities will be well lit and clearly signposted. Appropriate access for people with reduced mobility is included.
The construction of a new Lubin Stadion stop is planned. It will be located approximately 1.5 km from Lubin Górniczy station, in the direction of Rudna. The new platform will be equipped with ramps on the side of the level crossing at ul. Marii Skłodowskiej Curie.
A freight “link”
The Legnica–Rudna route in the Lower Silesian railway network is a “link” between two main railway lines: line E 30, running from the western border through Węgliniec, Legnica and Wrocław to Przemyśl, and line No. 273, known as the Nadodrzanka, connecting Wrocław, Głogów, Zielona Góra and Szczecin. The scope of the planned works on line No. 289 includes tracks, engineering structures (bridges, viaducts and culverts), the overhead contact line and railway traffic control equipment. The reconstruction of railway-road crossings will significantly increase the level of safety for passengers and drivers.
At present, only freight traffic operates on the Legnica–Rudna Gwizdanów line.
