On Tuesday, February 7, police officers from the Legnica traffic unit stopped the driver of a Renault for a roadside check on Jagiellońska Street. During their conversation with the 69-year-old driver, they detected the smell of alcohol. It turned out that the Legnica resident had nearly 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.

Another driver caught driving under the influence fell into the hands of police officers at around 5:00 p.m. on Jaworzyńska Street. The young man had nearly 1.6 per mille of alcohol in his system.

Both drunk drivers now face up to two years in prison. Police remind the public: “Driving a car while intoxicated is punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment and a driving ban of up to 15 years. In addition, such a person must expect severe financial consequences. Regardless of the sentence imposed, the court is required to order a monetary payment of no less than PLN 5,000 (in the case of a person committing such an offense for the first time) and no less than PLN 10,000 when a person has driven a vehicle while intoxicated again.
