– This month, there was a lot of media coverage of our duty hours – said Bolesławiec County Council Chairman Ryszard Kawka. – I cannot oblige councillors to hold duty hours. Every councillor has their own ways of contacting voters. But I believe that the institution of duty hours is needed and essential. However, this is not an order. If someone does not want to hold a duty, I will not penalise them for it.
The county councillors came up with the idea of having a mobile phone passed between councillors on duty. However, the idea was abandoned.
– If someone cannot appear on the appointed day, they can exchange shifts with another councillor – Kawka continued. – I would like everyone who wants to contact one of the councillors to have that opportunity. Such a person can obtain the number from the Council Office and arrange a meeting.
Councillor Maciej Małkowski of Ziemia Bolesławiecka proposed moving the duty hours from 3:00 p.m., when people usually finish work, to 4:00 p.m., which the Council chairman described as a “very good proposal”.
