In January 2017, the deployment of allied forces to Poland began. This process resulted from decisions announced during the NATO Summit in Warsaw and had already been initiated by the arrival of the U.S. Armored Brigade Combat Team. On January 12 at approximately 10:00 a.m., a column of U.S. vehicles from the ABCT, led by Colonel Christopher R. Norrie, crossed the state border in the town of Olszyna.
General Jarosław Mika, commander of the 11th Lubusz Armored Cavalry Division (11LDKPanc), was waiting for the American soldiers. Units from Żagań, Bolesławiec and Świętoszów belonging to the division will host the American soldiers. The official welcome for the American soldiers will take place on Saturday (January 14) in Żagań. The ceremony will be attended, among others, by Prime Minister Beata Szydło and Minister of National Defence Antoni Macierewicz.
