At the end of December, firefighters: asp. sztab. Grzegorz Buczkowski from KP PSP Zgorzelec, mł. kpt. Marek Gałan from KM PSP Jelenia Góra and st. kpt. Sylwester Łasocha from KP PSP Bolesławiec met at the Firefighting Museum in Oseredek. Grzegorz and Marek are from Józefów, while Sylwester is from Oseredek, a locality in Lubelskie Voivodeship. The firefighters have been serving in Lower Silesian commands for 15 years.
The museum features more than 300 exhibits. Among the most valuable are a horse-drawn fire pump from 1891 manufactured by the Lviv Firefighters’ Union; fire engines (Star 25, Star 29, Star 660, Żuk and Nysa); and 12 domestically and foreign-manufactured motor pumps. The museum also houses fire trailers, water fittings, respiratory protection equipment, firefighting literature, uniforms, decorations, documents, periodicals and many other firefighting-related exhibits.
The facility, its exhibits and the history of the museum’s establishment were presented by the founder’s son, kpt. Szczepan Łasocha (from KP PSP Tomaszów Lubelski), the brother of st. kpt. Sylwester Łasocha.
The village of Oseredek is located in the southern part of Lubelskie Voivodeship. The Central Roztocze Cycling Trail from Kraśnik to Lviv, 185 km long, runs through the locality.
Other attractions worth seeing in the area include:
- “Nad Tanwią” Nature Reserve. Its attractions include picturesque thresholds on the Tanew River known as rapids. The “Roztocze Rapids” were named one of the “7 New Wonders of Poland” in a poll organized by National Geographic Travel magazine, ranking sixth.
- “Czartowe Pole” Nature Reserve in the Sopot River valley, with the ruins of an 18th-century paper mill.
- Roztocze National Park, where visitors can see the Polish konik, a descendant of wild horses known as tarpans.
