The incident occurred during the night of December 25–26. At around 4:30 a.m., a Jelenia Góra Municipal Police patrol went to Hotel Europa, where a fire had broken out. Municipal police officers secured the scene of the operation against access by unauthorized persons.

A piece of furniture standing in one of the hotel corridors was on fire. Fortunately, thanks to the alarm from the fire protection system, the fire did not spread.

A total of 58 people were evacuated from the hotel and found shelter in two buses brought to the scene. The operation ended at approximately 6:30 a.m.
