The incident took place on Christmas Eve. At around 12:30 p.m., the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police dispatcher received a report that a group of young people were vandalizing Christmas decorations and attempting to break into a basement in a building on Bacewicz Street. The young people then consumed alcohol in the stairwell. When the officers arrived at the scene, it turned out that the entire group had left the building, got into a Nissan parked in front of the building and driven away. Residents gave the officers the vehicle’s registration number and information that the driver had also been drinking alcohol.
The Municipal Police dispatcher informed the Municipal Police Headquarters. On Różyckiego Street, the officers spotted the vehicle they were looking for. The Nissan driver tried to lose the officers by making sudden turns and frequently changing lanes. The Municipal Police dispatcher kept the police dispatcher informed of the Nissan’s location.
The officers signaled the Nissan driver to stop. The man stopped the car. The officers blocked the road and ordered the driver to turn off the engine. A strong smell of alcohol could be detected from the driver. A police patrol arrived at the scene within several dozen seconds and took further action.
It turned out that the Nissan was being driven by a 31-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra, who had nearly one per mille of alcohol in his breath, and the level was rising. The 31-year-old’s vehicle was towed to a guarded parking lot. After being identified and spoken to about their behavior in the building, the passengers left the scene. The building’s residents informed the officers that the decorations had been repaired themselves and that no further action was needed.
The 31-year-old could face up to two years in prison.
