The incident occurred on Friday, December 16, in Legnica. Before 5:00 p.m., the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters was informed that a 6-year-old girl was missing. Forty police officers and a tracking dog searched for her. What is more, the officers also notified the Municipal Transport Company and city guards.
It turned out that the 6-year-old, who was returning from swimming lessons, did not get off the bus at the school, as the other children did. “The girl probably fell asleep, and the caregiver did not check the bus carefully,” junior officer istotne.pl was told by Iwona Król-Szymajda, a spokesperson for the Legnica police. The 6-year-old continued on with the driver, who got off at the terminus and locked the vehicle. He also did not notice the girl.
The missing girl spent several hours on the locked bus. She was found—safe and sound—by the bus driver, who returned to the vehicle as soon as he learned that one of the girls was missing.
The officers are checking whether the caregiver exposed the girl to “an immediate danger of loss of life or serious injury.” If that proves to be the case, the woman could face up to 3 years in prison.
