At Municipal School Complex No. 3 on J. Słowackiego Street, the Letter-Writing Marathon began on December 9 at 6:00 p.m. We wrote letters throughout the night until 7:00 a.m. on December 10. We managed to write 1,011 letters. In addition, throughout the week from December 5 to 9, students joined the campaign by writing letters during homeroom periods.

The marathon takes place every year around December 10, when International Human Rights Day is observed around the world. Amnesty International scheduled the 17th edition of its campaign this year for December 1–11. During this time, letters were written in various places around the world in support of several specific people whose human rights had been violated.

Across Poland, approximately 337,000 handwritten letters and other appeals were produced (data as of December 12, 2016), and they were written at nearly 800 locations (around 1,292,735 letters were written worldwide). The Letter-Writing Marathon is one of the largest events in our country engaging such a large number of people in the defense of human rights.
