On Saturday, December 3, inspectors from the Lower Silesian Animal Protection Inspectorate took a female beagle from its owners because the dog’s health and life were at risk. The dog was kept at a temperature of minus 7 degrees on wet rags, had no access to a kennel or proper shelter from the wind, and had no water. It suffered from chronic inflammation of the conjunctiva, ears, bladder and skin. The inspectors decided that the animal had to be taken from its owners immediately, despite their lack of consent and resistance. The owner claimed that the conditions in which he kept the dog were appropriate, obstructed the activities of the authorized body, and refused to hand over the animal.
For three years, residents and local foundations took every possible step to improve the female dog’s welfare, from intervening and taking away puppies to reporting neglect to the municipal police and the police. None of these actions resulted in an improvement in the dog’s living conditions.
Due to a justified suspicion that the crime of long-term abuse of an animal had been committed, the Lower Silesian Animal Protection Inspectorate will notify the prosecutor’s office. The owner may face up to two years in prison, a payment of up to PLN 100,000, and a 10-year ban on keeping animals for the offense.
The SOS Beagle Association has taken over the care of the female dog. It is doing everything possible to help her forget as quickly as possible the nightmare of the many long years spent alone in extremely harsh conditions. The dog is staying at a home boarding facility, surrounded by care. She is undergoing examinations. She has already received immediate veterinary assistance and is now being diagnosed.
The association is asking for support.
