The duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica received a report from a woman who said that she had been robbed and that the thief, who appeared to be around 27–30 years old, had fled with her handbag from the Municipal Park towards Jaworzyńska Street in Legnica.
Immediately after the report, a patrol arrived at the victim’s location. The officers took the woman into the police car (they wanted her to file a theft report at the station). Meanwhile, near Jaworzyńska Street, they noticed a man whose appearance matched the description of the perpetrator.
The officers checked the 30-year-old Legnica resident suspected of the theft. It turned out that small items which had previously been inside the stolen handbag were lying on the ground right next to him.
The victim identified her belongings and the thief. The officers arrested the Legnica resident, who admitted to committing the crime and pointed out a rubbish bin into which he had thrown the registration certificate of the vehicle belonging to the victim.
The man faces up to five years in prison.
