Police officers from Bolesławiec arrested three residents of Jelenia Góra County: two women, aged 28 and 64, and a 59-year-old man. All three are suspected of defrauding victims of at least PLN 35,000.

The scammers operated in three counties: Bolesławiec, Lubań and Legnica. They mainly carried out their scheme in rural areas. They told selected people, most often older individuals, that they had won a lottery. To receive the prize—household appliances—the winners had to pay nearly PLN 800 in VAT. To lull the victims’ suspicions, the suspects gave the alleged winners small gifts.

According to estimates by the Bolesławiec police, the gang may have defrauded at least 50 people in this way. The suspects face up to 8 years in prison.
