The asphalt collapsed on Komuny Paryskiej Street on April 30. The hole was noticed by a group of cyclists passing through the area. They notified Bogusław Nowak, the owner of a nearby restaurant and a city councilor. After the damage was reported, the opening was secured.
“This is not a hole. It is a huge cavity that could have caused an accident. This is the greatest example of shoddy work in the world,” Bogusław Nowak told the IstotneInformacje.pl portal.Bogusław Nowak. The opening formed next to one of the sewer lines modernized in 2006 as part of the multimillion-dollar ISPA project.
Many people are dissatisfied with the quality of the modernization work carried out two years ago. Residents of Komuny Paryskiej Street complain about an odor that is particularly severe on hot days. They believe the pre-war German sewer system was more solid. In October, we wrote about the problems caused by the defective sewer system for the Kocielski family, residents of Kubika Street.
“This investment was completed very quickly and poorly,” Bogusław NowakBogusław Nowak assesses. “Someone should face the consequences. We entrepreneurs sometimes pay a high price for every bad decision. I believe this entire investment should have been inspected much more thoroughly,” he adds.
“The information I have obtained indicates that the sewer contractor made a mistake while sealing the channel,” says Wiesław OgrodnikWiesław Ogrodnik, deputy mayor of Bolesławiec. According to Piotr Roman’s deputy, the asphalt collapsed because of a concrete plug that probably fell into the sewer pipe. “The sand that filled the base was making its way into the unused channel,” the deputy mayor explains.
The fact that the hole in the road on Komuny Paryskiej Street appeared at the end of April is, as officials told us, a blessing in disguise. The warranty agreement with the investment contractor expires on May 30. The repair of the damaged road was suspended this week on the order of Wiesław OgrodnikWiesław Ogrodnik. The contract engineer is due to arrive in Bolesławiec on May 7 and determine beyond any doubt whether the opening was caused by the construction company.
Moreover, on May 15, an inspection of the entire sewer line constructed as part of the ISPA project will begin. Specialists will check whether the modernization contractor made similar mistakes elsewhere. The company will have to correct any defects at its own expense.
