Everyone gathered on Thursday, 14 February, at the MDK Gallery of Talents had the opportunity to discover how many different shades love can have. The young performers assured the audience, among other things, that it does not take much to fall in love (“One Step to Falling in Love,” from Andrzej Dąbrowski’s repertoire). That love should be unconditional (“Despite Everything” by the band Hey), even if it can sometimes be flirtatious (“Goodbye, Kitty” by Hanna Banaszak). And that feelings sometimes fade (“There Was Supposed to Be a Wedding” by Monika Brodka).

That evening, some of the performers sang in public for the first time. Before the concert, the audience watched two short films prepared by the Tygrys Ogłuszony Domem theatre group, supervised by Urszula Frąszczak-Matyjewicz.

The MDK vocal studio has been organising Valentine’s concerts for eight years. “Vocal workshops are meant to enable everyone to sing—with no auditions, no tests, and no checking whether someone has what it takes,” says Marek Łętowski, an MDK instructor. “What matters is that young people want to spend their afternoons in a way that interests them,” he adds.

The workshop participants selected the repertoire for the Valentine’s concert together with Marek Łętowski. “Most participants choose the songs themselves. Some bring me pieces I find unbearable. Then I replace them with ones I like,” the MDK instructor says with a smile.

The Gallery of Talents was packed to capacity. The next concert by MDK participants will take place in spring.
