A several-kilometre-long oil spill stretched from the roundabout near Zgorzelecka Street to Kruszyn. In some places, it was as much as 60 cm wide.
For some time, traffic on this route was disrupted. Cars had to use detours through the town, causing major traffic jams in central Bolesławiec. Uniformed services directed traffic on the bypass. As the spill was being neutralized, successive sections of the road were closed.
Cleaning the bypass took about two hours. Firefighters removed the oil spill using an absorbent that effectively absorbs grease, paints and varnishes.
Update: 2008-01-18, 12:45
It is not known which vehicle the oil was leaking from. Bolesławiec police have not yet managed to establish the identity of the driver of the leaking vehicle. According to firefighters, the greasy spill was probably left by a truck.
